Preparing for Your First Conversation with EBC

A little preparation can make an introductory conversation more focused. You do not need to have every answer before reaching out.

Start with what is happening now

Think about the situations that led you to contact EBC. Helpful examples may include routines that are difficult, skills your child is working toward, or questions you want to explore. Everyday examples are often more useful than trying to choose clinical language.

If several people support your child, consider asking what they have noticed. You can bring those observations to the conversation without treating them as a diagnosis or a final conclusion.

Gather basic information

Having a few details nearby can help the conversation move efficiently:

  • Your child’s age and the best way to contact you
  • The services or support you are exploring
  • Your general location and scheduling considerations
  • Your insurance plan information, if you want EBC to discuss benefits verification
  • Questions you want to make sure are answered

Do not send sensitive records through an ordinary website message unless EBC has provided a secure method and asked you to do so.

Questions you may want to ask

  • What happens after this first conversation?
  • What information will EBC need from my family?
  • How does benefits verification work?
  • Which settings and schedules may be available?
  • Who should I contact if my circumstances change?

The answers may depend on your family’s needs, availability, service fit, and payer requirements.

What happens next

EBC’s published starting process is: contact EBC, have an initial consultation, complete benefits verification and explanation when insurance is involved, develop an appropriate plan, and then begin services when the required steps are complete.
